An assistant helps with tasks that are repetitive and checkable: retyping, formatting, the activity table you rebuild at the end of every month. It has no place where a decision commits a person. To sort your own work, describe your week without thinking about tools at all, then spot what comes back identically and what you would be able to review. The time saved on producing shifts onto reviewing, which calls for experience rather than less of it.

### 1. The sorting happens on paper, not in a tool

You need no software to get started. Take a sheet of paper and write down what an ordinary week in your structure really contains, task by task. Some of them come back identically and never call for your judgement. Others commit a person and will not move. That split is made by hand, before anyone offers you a subscription.

### How can I tell whether a task can be handed to an assistant?

Ask two questions. Does this task come back identically, and would you be able to spot a mistake in the result? If both answers are yes, you have a lead. If the task settles a situation that affects someone, it stays in your hands, even when it takes up a lot of your time.

### Will AI save me time on the hard decisions?

No, and that is a piece of good news that gets misread. What goes are the simple tasks that gave you room to breathe during the day. What remains is weighing up and checking, end to end. So plan where the time freed up goes, otherwise it fills up on its own and the day becomes denser than before.

### My management wants to roll out a tool that sorts files. Where do I start?

With the use, never with the product. A system that sorts files about people has effects on them. So you have to qualify that risk level, provide human oversight that can genuinely overrule a result, inform the people concerned and train those who will use it. A vendor's certificate covers their product, not your use of it.
