Check an AI output before you sign it

A model writes the most likely continuation: it can produce a reference, a value or a source that does not exist, in the same confident tone as when it is right. The check never triggers itself. Before anything goes out, trace every statement back to the documents you supplied, open the sources cited, compare two successive answers, and note what you have checked. The signature is yours, and so is the responsibility.

What is this course about?

Spot what an assistant has invented, check every figure and every source, and keep a record of your review before anything goes out.

This is a core course: the material taught is the same for everyone, only the examples, the tools mentioned and the people you deal with change with your job. It has 3 sections, of which 1 section is followed by a quiz, and reads in 20-30 min. The legal framework cited is French law.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a serious review of an AI output take?

Less than the writing, more than nothing. On a short piece with nothing at stake, a few minutes are enough. On a document that carries your signature, allow the time to open every source cited and to find every statement again in the documents you supplied. If that takes longer than writing it yourself, the task was not the right candidate.

Is asking the assistant to check its own answer enough?

No. A second pass produces a text about checking, not a check. The model can confirm its own error with just as much confidence, or change its mind for no reason. What it can do is list the points it could not support with a document, if you ask the question in the negative. Checking the facts stays manual: you open the source.

Should you keep a written record of the review of a document produced with AI?

It is what protects you the day the document is challenged. Note in the file what you checked, against which source, and on which date. One line is enough. Without that record, you will not be able to show that the check took place, and the output will look like an unreviewed copy-paste.

What can I read without a subscription?
