Digital skills courses for doctors: practice security, AI and health data

In brief

A medical practice concentrates health data, a small team with no IT staff and a duty to keep care running. Skillrung courses for doctors deal with the real situations of the practice: the practitioner's mailbox, electronic claims portals, practice management software, artificial intelligence assistants. Each course measures your level on three tiers and issues a dated certificate in your name.

What we recommend to doctors

The first four slides of every course are free, with no account and no bank card. From the fifth onwards, a subscription is required.

What makes a practice particularly exposed

A practice combines three factors rarely found together elsewhere. First, the value of the data: a patient record holds medical history, a social security number and contact details — everything needed to steal an identity for years. Second, the absence of an IT department: the computer is administered by the software vendor, sometimes by a relative, and updates wait until the practice closes. Third, constant urgency: a practitioner running from one consultation to the next opens an attachment in thirty seconds, without checking the sender. An attack does not need to be sophisticated to succeed here; it needs to arrive at the right moment.

Medical confidentiality does not stop at the practice door

Professional secrecy applies to every medium: a report sent from a personal mailbox, a photograph of a lesion exchanged on a smartphone, a recording of a consultation handed to an automatic assistant. The rule is simple to state and hard to keep: any data that identifies a patient stays in a tool whose hosting is certified for health data. Skillrung courses turn this rule into verifiable actions — where to send an examination to a colleague, what to remove from a text before handing it to an AI tool, what to do with temporary exports.

Artificial intelligence in the practice: what changes, what does not

Writing assistants are arriving in specialist software and save real time on reports and letters. What changes: the speed at which a document is produced. What does not change: the practitioner's responsibility for what they sign, the duty to inform the patient, and the obligation to check where the data goes. The course “Generative AI: understanding and using AI in your job” starts from your three longest administrative tasks, shows how to phrase a request without any identifying data, and above all how to proofread a generated text: a dosage, a date and a medical history are the three places where an error goes unnoticed.

How a skillrung course works

Each course is a sequence of short slides interspersed with section quizzes that check a notion has been understood before you continue. The first four slides of every course are accessible without a subscription, and the Beginner level quiz is free: you measure your level before paying anything at all. Beyond that, a single subscription opens the whole catalogue. Three quiz levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert) measure your progress, from spotting a situation to settling a difficult case, and a certificate in your name is issued on success, with an online verification page valid for twelve months that a patient, an employer or an insurer can consult.

Frequently asked questions

What doctors ask us

Is a doctor in private practice really a target?

Yes, though rarely a targeted one. Phishing campaigns and ransomware are automated and hit everything within reach. A practice is within reach: few defences, backups often left permanently connected, and a pressure to keep care running that pushes people to improvise. That is exactly the profile an automated attack succeeds against.

Can I use a consumer AI tool to write a report?

Not with identifying details. Passing a name, a date of birth or a social security number to a service that is not certified for hosting health data amounts to disclosing information covered by medical confidentiality. A fully anonymised text, or an integrated and certified tool, are the two workable routes.

What should I do in the hour after an attack on the practice?

Isolate the computer from the network without switching it off, alert the specialist software vendor, warn the other practitioners, then document what was seen. If patient data is affected, the breach must be notified to the French data protection authority (CNIL) within 72 hours. Filing a police report comes next, with the evidence you have kept.

How is this different from the free courses already available?

Public resources are excellent and general. Skillrung starts from the practice: your tools, the people you deal with, your data. Above all, your level is measured by three separate quizzes, and the certificate is in your name, dated and verifiable online, which no freely available resource provides.
